How is this forum intended to coexist with [rails-oceania]?

The announcement of this forum was greeted with much enthusiasm on the Ruby Australia Slack account. However, Jon Rowe asked the obvious question:

What does this mean for the google group? Given its also our mailing list?

Perhaps @toby or @antulik could shed some light on this.

Short answer: nothing.

Long answer: The Google group and the forum are separate entities - Ruby AU is behind the forum but not the mailing list. What happens to the Google group is a question for Pat.

Personally I think the forum obviates the need for the Google group, but in no way does that mean it’s going anywhere right this minute - and again, that’s not up to me or @antulik or the committee.
