[rails-oceania] [Job] Senior Team Lead @ Bellroy

IN A NUTSHELL

Bellroy puts its heart, soul and countless design hours into helping the
world carry with greater simplicity and ease. Every piece of our products
has been deeply considered to help you get the best of life’s little
moments.

Bellroy’s technology team is growing and we need a Senior Team Lead to
manage the development of a small number of web developers at differing
experience levels. You will coach them towards their growth goals, and
oversee their deliverables in our agile environment.

You will be needed to write software as part of this role, but your
principal function is to manage people. You will be responsible for
managing a team of developers and their professional development, but not
technical reviews, code quality or our enterprise architecture strategy –
we have technical leads for that. We need enough technical leaders to build
an innovative yet stable platform. And enough people leaders to help the
team learn and grow. Both responsibilities are respected equally. So, if
you have the technical knowledge paired with the people skills, then this
could be the role for you.

We built most of our systems in Ruby and Rails, so you must have at least a
working understanding of those technologies. We use React and Elm in the
front-end, and we’re starting to move more toward the latter. We’re
striving for a headless e-commerce model and re-assessing our technical
stack. You will have opportunities to learn and master new programming
languages and frameworks.

YOU COULD BE THE ONE, IF…

  • Have a solid technical background in Ruby on Rails, but recognise that
    it has its limitations
  • Get excited about great books and the ideas you can steal from them –
    technical and non-technical books alike
  • Understand and can argue the pros and cons of different agile
    methodologies
  • Have experience with and enjoy empowering other developers
  • Think a workplace with dogs, coffee, breakout spaces and casual
dresscode sounds like a great place to be
  • Want to work for a company that cares about doing good things for the
    world

YOU PROBABLY AREN’T THE ONE, IF…

  • Prefer working on your own, and staying away from face-to-face
    conversations
  • Care more about tabs vs spaces than Scrum vs Kanban
  • Are looking for a key role in technology selection and architecture
  • Think a workplace with dogs, coffee, breakout spaces and casual
    dresscode sounds unappealing
  • Work just to pay the bills, no matter who is paying you
