At the forthcoming Annual General Meeting for Ruby Australia on October 14th 2019, there will be elections for the roles of President, Treasurer, Secretary, and two General Members in the organisation’s committee.
The role descriptions are below - if you are interested in nominating yourself or someone else for the role, please use our form to do so. If you cannot be present at the General Meeting, you must make any nomination submissions ahead of time so they can be confirmed and considered by those present (and indeed, we recommend discussing potential nominations with nominees ahead of time).
President
The president guides the overall direction of the organisation. They make the final call on major decisions and delegate work to general members. They are in charge of making sure the committee is running smoothly (including chairing committee meetings) and helping other committee members to meet their obligations.
Occasionally they need to mediate interpersonal issues within the committee or address code of conduct breaches within the member base.
Expected time required to perform this role is 5+ hours per week. The term for this position is 12 months.
Treasurer
Handles all the financial matters of the association, including recording transactions in Xero, issuing invoices to sponsors and others purchasing tickets, making payments to suppliers, providing financial reports at general meetings, and coordinating any tax and other financial reporting with our accountants.
Expected time required to perform this role will vary. Some months it’s very quiet, and others (particularly around RubyConf AU and Rails Camps) will require several hours across the course of a week. Given the extra effort required in building up familiarity with the tools and services, the term for this role is 24 months (two years).
Secretary
The secretary is responsible for maintaining the formal legal and governance requirements of running an association. They help schedule both committee and general meetings, maintain minutes for all meetings, and assist with member communications.
Expected time required to perform this role is 3-4 hours per week. The term for this position is 12 months, and must be filled by someone living in Victoria (as that’s where Ruby Australia is registered).
General Members
General members are tasked with supporting the current needs of the organisation in various ways. They might be focusing on particular aspects of the organisation like the website, sponsorship, social media and other member communication. We try to utilise the strengths and interests of each member to the best effect, and to allow them a fair amount of autonomy in their area of focus.
The outgoing members this time around have been focused on sponsorship, and maintaining the websites and online presence of the association.
Expected time required to perform this role: 2-3 hours per week. The term for this position is 12 months.
Again: if you are interested in nominating yourself or someone else for the role, please use our form to do so.
And if you’ve any questions about these roles or the committee more generally, please reply here or email contact@ruby.org.au and the current committee will be in touch.
