Rails Camp Inventory

(There isn’t a thread yet but I have an agenda item so here it is.)

Tom Ridge raised that a) the RailsCamp inventory has a couple of items that belong to CampJS organisers (they left them behind at Koonjewarre and we ended up taking them with us, apparently) and b) CampJS would like to borrow some of our stuff. Let’s discuss how we’re tracking our inventory and how comfortable we are/are not with the idea of loaning parts of it out.

I’m okay with CampJS borrowing it, but I don’t have any actual experience with them so it’s more “yay we have friends we can help” rather than “this is a good decision for Ruby Australia”.

If we lend them something and it’s broken how do we want to address that? Is any of the stuff they want to borrow particularly valuable?

I do like the idea of tracking items, could we use a trello board for this? I’m conscious that we don’t want to bring in yet another system.

Just to confirm, the next meeting is on the 20th June?

Renamed the topic to be specific for inventory since the discussion already started and we can sort it out before the meeting.

For the tracking of RailsCamp inventory I would like to suggest very simple and effective way. We have a single topic on forum where person in charge would list all items with quantity and overall photo of items. Then we can see what’s missing and when it got missing. Very simple and effective.

Considering the next CampJS will be near Melbourne that should be easy to arrange the pickup.

Can you be a bit more specific? Overall I don’t see a problem, but probably would like to keep it as a case by case decision. We have to be ready to pay for broken/lost items ourselves if it’s hard to prove/get funds.

This is example on how that post will look like.

@toby I would like to know more about what they want to borrow. If it’s some power boards and cables, no big deal, if it’s the Apple hardware that requires a little more consideration I think.

@antulik I like this idea for tracking the items. @quintrino, as the new event liaison, could you copy and paste the example from above into a new thread and find an appropriate place in the Rails Camp guide post to link to it please?
